Day #6. Seed Day!

Activity Ideas

#1. How Do Seeds Become Plants?
I recommend watching this video from SciShow Kids Channel before beginning the activities for today! This gives a great introduction for learning more about seeds!
#2. Dissect a Seed Experiment
Start the process to dissect a seed by soaking a large lima bean in a cup of water!
#3. Plant Seeds & Start “My Plant Tracker Journal“
Plant some seeds today! You can also print, assemble, and write down what you did in your plant journal tracker! There are three format options to choose from when printing out this mini book.
#4. Color or Paint the “Watch My Plant Grow” Page for Today!
Print this PDF and cut out the pages for today and color or paint! If using watercolors, have your student trace the lines with a black crayon before painting. If you have older kids, do the next version of this activity instead.
#5. Draw the “Watch My Plant Grow” Page for Today!
Do you have older students? Cut out the pages for today and draw instead of coloring or painting the above illustration. Watch the drawing video below if your student needs guidance. This is the same PDF download as above.
#6. Themed Snack Idea
While you read (or listen to) the books below, have the garden themed snack idea below! Use some store-bought seed crackers or make your own! You could also just incorporate seeds into snack time (sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc) to make it easy.
#7. Read or Listen to a Book!
(Note: Everyone has different book standards! I highly suggest skimming through any books before reading them to your kids, just to make sure it aligns with your family values first) 🩷
While you enjoy snack time, wrap things up with a garden-inspired book! You’re welcome to read any of the suggested books in the Garden School bundle, but at our house today we’ll be reading, ”The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle.

Do you have older kids? I suggest having them read 1-2 chapters from, “The Secret Garden”!
