Day #6. Arctic Hare Day!
Here is some of what we are planning to do on Monday! 🙂
Activities
IMPORTANT NOTE: These printable activities will be FREE for you to download, but only until Arctic Hare Day is over! So, make sure to download them even if you are going to do Arctic Hare Day later in the week – that way you can still snag them for free. If you could leave a review behind afterwards, that would be amazing too! THANK YOU!! 🥰❤️
#1. Arctic Hare Finger Puppet OR Bracelet
Here is a simple craft for today! Your kids can choose to make a finger puppet with these rabbits OR cut out the rabbit and glue it to a strip of construction paper to make a paper bracelet for today!
They can draw the facial features onto the rabbit or leave it as is. And of course, design and/or color the ring band or bracelet, if they want!
#2. Label the Arctic Hare Worksheet
This Label the Arctic Hare Worksheet comes with a word bank at the bottom of the page and an answer key on the next page.
I’m going to have my kids continue to do these label worksheets after watching the educational videos (those links are below if you scroll down).
#3. Arctic Hare Snow Globe Coloring/Painting Page
You’ll first want to print out this PDF for your child.
They can color or paint this page! After everything is dry, I recommend painting all the snowy areas and/or rabbits with white paint and sprinkling glitter on top. My camera didn’t really pick up the glitter, but it definitely makes this more fun for kids (it looks cooler with glittery snow too!).
They can also cut it out and glue it to a piece of construction paper for the background.
#4. Arctic Hare Mini Research Book (Writing Activity)
I made this mini book project so that my kids could have something in hand to take notes on while we watch some of the educational videos below.
I’ve found that it’s really helpful to build their listening skills and to help them pay better attention, if they have some specific information to listen for.
You will want to print these two pages DOUBLE-SIDED and flip it on the short edge. Cut once down the blue line. Fold both pieces of paper and then tuck the bottom piece into the top piece. Make sure the page numbers line up before stapling shut.
Snack
Snack time today is a Snowy Rabbit!
All you’ll need is an apple slice, banana, mini marshmallow, raisins, small pretzel sticks, and a raspberry.
Books
(Note: Some of these books are new to me, so be sure to skim it beforehand if you want to make sure it’s something your family values align with).
Today we’ll be reading, “Arctic Hare: Animals That Live In The Tundra” by Therese Shea and “The Snow Rabbit” by Georgiana Deutsch.
If you were unable to grab these books from the library or store, here are the read aloud options on YouTube!
Educational Videos
Pick and choose (or watch all of) the videos below to learn more about snowy Arctic foxes! ❄️
Arctic hares are included in this video below about animals with winter coats!
This video is not specific to Arctic hares, but I thought it was cute to see all the different sounds rabbits can make!
Do You Have More Time? Here Are Some Extra Ideas!
#1. Do a rabbit hopping relay contest!
#2. Follow along to draw this snow bunny over at Art for Kids Hub.
I hope you guys enjoyed learning about Arctic hares! 💙 If you need to print out the Winter Calendar still, drop your email below and I’ll send it right over!
